今朝の一曲 Oh, Shenandoah

　オールディーズという分類に入ってしまうのか、ボブ・ディラン(BOB DYLAN)やポール・ロブソン(Paul Robeson)が歌っていた「オー・シェナンドー」を、今朝はチーフテンズ(The Chieftains)で聞いた。　チーフテンズのアルバム"Long Journey Home"の１曲目に収録されているものである。
　Shenandoah Valley は、北アメリカのバージニア州北部にあるようで、渓谷には Shenandoah川が流れ、１７００年代に発見され、西部開拓地への玄関口になっていたようだ。　詞の中では、大きなミズリー川を渡りながら、インディン娘に対する想いを歌っているようである。
　行ったことのない地域だが、何か郷愁を感じる一曲だ。　次に、lyricsを掲載。
